Dr. Peter Zafirides, MD

Dr. Zafirides is a graduate of The Ohio State University (OSU) College of Medicine. Dr. Zafirides completed his psychiatry residency at OSU Hospitals Department of Psychiatry. During his residency, he received awards in both clinical and teaching excellence. Dr. Zafirides also served as chief resident in his final year. Dr. Zafirides and his partners formed Central Ohio Behavioral Medicine in 1997
As a board-certified psychiatrist, Dr. Zafirides has extensive experience in the evaluation and medical management of depression, anxiety disorders, ADHD, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. His specific area of interest within psychiatry is the mind-body role of emotions and physical illness, especially chronic pain.
Dr. Zafirides has been published in this area of psychiatry, lecturing both nationally and internationally on this topic.
With an existential orientation to psychotherapy, Dr. Zafirides has been greatly influence by the work of Irvin Yalom, Viktor Frankl and Rollo May.
Dr. Zafirides is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and the Ohio Psychiatric Physicians Association. He is a member of the Psychophysiologic Disorders Association (PPDA). He serves as an advisory board member for the National Institute of Whole Health. He is also a guest lecturer of psychopharmacology to graduate students in the OSU Counslor Education Program.
Dr. Zafirides has received the Best Doctors In America recognition multiple times since 2005. He has also been recognized nationally with multiple Patients’ Choice Awards and Compassionate Doctor Awards since 2008
