Built across three University of Thessaly departments, the MSc unites exercise science, nutrition and medicine within one coherent, evidence-based programme.

The Department of Physical Education and Sport Science - which has been ranked 92nd worldwide in the 2026 ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Sport Science Schools and Departments - contributes expertise in exercise physiology, physical activity, functional assessment, behaviour change and the prevention and management of chronic disease. Its academic and laboratory environment anchors the programme’s practical approach to Lifestyle Medicine.

For MSc students, this is where lifestyle science becomes measurable practice—from exercise prescription and fitness assessment to sleep, stress, body composition and health-related quality of life.

The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics contributes expertise in nutrition science, dietetics, food behaviour and population health. Its teaching connects dietary assessment and evidence-based nutritional strategies with the prevention and management of non-communicable disease.

Within the MSc, students examine nutrition as one of eight interconnected Lifestyle Medicine pillars—not as an isolated intervention, but alongside physical activity, sleep, stress, social connection, substance use, sexual health and environmental exposure.

From Prevention to Clinical Practice

The Department of Medicine provides the programme’s clinical foundation. Its contribution links Lifestyle Medicine with pathophysiology, risk assessment, prevention and the treatment of chronic disease across the life course.

This medical perspective helps students evaluate lifestyle interventions critically, understand their clinical relevance and work effectively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams. Together with exercise and nutrition science, it completes a genuinely integrated approach to health promotion and chronic disease management.
