Department of Physical Education and Sport Science
History
The Department of Physical Education and Sport Science was founded in 1993 and the first students were admitted during the Academic year 1994-1995;
DPESS now is part of the School of Physical Education, Sport Science and Dietetics. The Department is in the 150 km2 Karies campus, Trikala.
The total surface area of the infrastructure is 3000 m2 consisted of fully equipped laboratories, library, teaching classrooms, teleconferencing facilities, IT, and staff offices. Moreover, the campus includes outdoor sports facilities and courts, an amphitheater and teaching classrooms of 1000m2.
Mission and Objectives
DPESS objectives are: a) to cultivate and promote Physical Education and Sports Science through theoretical and applied teaching and research, b) to provide graduates with all the knowledge and skills necessary for their scientific and career development c) To contribute to the advancement of Greek Sports and to promote the ideals of sportsmanship, ethical behavior and fair play. d) To promote public awareness of the importance of exercise as a main contributor to the improvement of health and quality of life.
Department of Nutrition and Dietetics
History
The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics (DND) of the University of Thessaly was established by law 4589/2019 and joined the Faculty of Sciences of Physical Education, Sports, and Dietetics. The Department is based in Trikala and is in its second year of operation. The building in which the Department operates, with an area of 4000 sq.m., includes laboratories, a library, classrooms, a teleconference room, a computer room, etc. All members of the academic staff are active in the field of dietetics and nutrition and show national and international recognition, such as participation in European and National Organizations dealing with nutrition, implementation of innovative national and European programs, issuing nutritional guidelines and good practices for citizens, etc.

Department of Medicine
History
The Faculty of Medicine of the School of Health Sciences is the biggest of the 17 Faculties of the University of Thessaly.
The Faculty of Medicine was founded in 1985 in Larissa while in 2008, new buildings (the University campus) for the Faculty of Medicine were erected on 100,000 m2 in the area of Mezourlo. The new facilities of the University campus include the following laboratories established in March 2008: the Laboratories of Anatomy, Biology, Biochemistry, Physiology, Pharmacology, Immunology, and Pathology. The “Clinical Laboratories” of the Departments of Internal Medicine, Surgery, Mother & Child, and Neurology-Sense Organs are also located at the University Campus.
Nowadays, the Faculty of Medicine has 95 new active members while 42 more positions of different grades are under evaluation or nomination.
Mission
The mission of the Faculty of Medicine is to educate and correspondingly provide Bachelor, Master’s, and PhD degrees, and simultaneously contribute to the acquisition of new scientific knowledge through Research.
