Dr. Maria Maraki, PhD

Assistant Professor in Clinical Nutrition- Nutritional Intervention

Dr Maraki is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Nutrition - Nutritional Intervention at the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Hellenic Mediterranean University, Crete, Greece.  Her studies and professional experience are related to nutrition and lifestyle in the provision of health. Over the last 10 years, she has been working mostly on epidemiological and clinical studies, investigating the effect of nutrition (mainly Mediterranean Diet) and lifestyle on metabolism, weight status and prevention of neurodegenerative diseases, with particular emphasis on movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease (PD). Results of her studies have been published in highly impacted journals such as Neurology, Movement Disorders, Sports Medicine, Clinical Nutrition and Obesity. In total, her work has resulted in 85 publications, including 40 full articles in peer-reviewed journals (total IF: 188.714). Her research has been recognized and distinguished internationally (>600 citations, H-index:13) receiving five awards in International Conferences on Clinical Nutrition and Obesity, while she has been awarded for the best research article published in Movement Disorders (2018-2019).
